Identity
The “Christian Educational Foundation in memory of Efthymios and Konstantina Zolotas” was founded by Professor Xenophon Zolotas in memory of his parents, Efthymios and Konstantina. It operates under Law 4182/2013 as a Private Legal Entity.
The purpose of the Foundation is the dissemination of the principles of the Orthodox Christian faith, the granting of scholarships (Government Gazette A/44/8.3.1979), and the provision of donations for charitable purposes to hospitals, libraries, orphanages, nursing homes, churches, and similar institutions (Government Gazette, Second Issue, 1178/10-09-2001).
Each year, the Foundation awards twenty scholarships to undergraduate students enrolled in the Departments of Theology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), and the Higher Ecclesiastical Academies of Athens and Crete. In addition, it grants five annual scholarships to undergraduate students in the Departments of Economics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), as well as one scholarship to the Department of Business Administration at the University of the Aegean in Chios.
As part of its charitable donations, the Foundation has provided support to public-benefit institutions in the country, such as the “Apostoli” of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens for its various initiatives, the “Maria Kokkori Foundation” for individuals with Down syndrome, the “Lyreio Foundation” for orphaned children, the “Ark of the World” for orphaned and abandoned children, the Chios Nursing Home “Georgios G. Michalinos,” the Elderly Care Home of the Church of Saint George in Kypseli, and others.
The Foundation’s funding comes from the lease of a property at Ermou 30 and Kornarou 1 in Athens, which was donated by the Founder upon his death.
The headquarters of the Foundation is located in a privately-owned building at 8 Frynichou Street, Plaka, Athens, which was donated inter vivos by the Founder, Xenophon Zolotas, to the Foundation.
